Michael Kaplan, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, will explore how Tracey Emin’s paintings invite the viewer into her conscious and unconscious thoughts, much like the dialogue between therapist and patient.
Tracey Emin has stated that in painting, “everything has come through me,” that her feelings “entered my mind, travelled through my heart, my blood, arriving at the end of my hand.” Her paintings hold her feelings through gesture, brushstroke, color, line, and erasure. The paintings in this exhibition share difficult narratives and directly address challenging, sensitive subjects. Many of Emin’s narratives, based in experiences of trauma, invite the viewer into her conscious and unconscious thoughts, much like the dialogue between therapist and patient. In this talk, Michael Kaplan will explore how Emin communicates to the observer the role of memory, isolation, grief, rage, loss, and hope as she lays bare her vulnerability and reclaims her narrative.

Preparing a recovery schedule during construction can have far-reaching implications, especially when it comes to evaluating delays later in the project. We will discuss the risks and complexities that arise when a project shifts from its original plan to a recovery schedule, raising critical questions about how to measure responsibility for delays. Should you rely on the original schedule, the recovery plan, or something else entirely? Through a series of scenarios, we will explore how changes in sequencing, actual progress, and planning assumptions influence the interpretation of delays, and whether a recovery schedule truly “erases the sins of the past.”
Speakers:
Haswanth Venkatavijayan
Haswanth is a Senior Consultant at FTI Consulting. He holds a master’s degree in Construction Management from Columbia University and brings a strong academic and professional foundation in project controls and construction claims analysis. In his consulting experience, Haswanth has played a key role in the successful resolution of complex construction claims, with his expertise in delay analysis, damage quantification, and evaluating loss of productivity impacts. He has supported both contractors and owners by monitoring schedule progress, analyzing construction sequencing, and reviewing change orders involving time extensions and cost claims.
Phillip Kenny, CCA
Phillip Kenny is a Senior Director at FTI Consulting and is based in the New York City area. Mr. Kenny has more than ten years of experience resolving construction disputes. He has prepared and presented claims on behalf of contractors and evaluated and refuted claims on behalf of owners and contractors. In his experience, Mr. Kenny has consulted on a variety of projects including airports, light rail systems, roadways, mid and high rise buildings, chemical plants, natural gas compressor stations and pipelines. Mr. Kenny also has performed on-site time studies of various contractors performing roadway construction operations. He has extensive experience performing claims analyses and quantifying damages related to schedule delays, change orders, acceleration, cost overruns, loss of productivity impacts, and similar damages.
Eric Schatz, PE, PSP, CFCC

With a strong background in project controls and construction management, he often serves as a claims consultant expert providing schedule delay, loss of productivity, and damages analysis. Years of analyzing and preparing claims has afforded Eric with insights of poor risk management, reactive decision making and their potential consequences on cost, schedule, productivity, and quality. He uses this experience to assist parties to evaluate their exposure and resolve disputes prior to arbitration or trial.

Andy Squyres is a singer-songwriter born and raised in the mountains of Northern California but after moving east in the late 1990’s, he’s spent the last few decades carving songs out of the foothills of his North Carolina home. Heavily influenced by the poetics of Leonard Cohen, Squyres leans heavily into the lyrical tradition of artists like Bob Dylan, The National, and John Mark McMillan, having a passion for words that are equally worshipful and honest.
His live show is ache on display, a joyful protest, at once humorous and tragic, weaving together songs and tales of heartbreak and hope, making audiences laugh and sometimes cry while feeling the wonder of the sorrows and joys of life.
In 2016 he released his album Cherry Blossoms and most recently in 2021 he released his album Poet Priest which journalist Brett McCracken named the album of the year stating that "If people claim Christian music is all schmaltz that sugarcoats reality, they haven’t listened to Andy Squyres. The Charlotte-based (by way of California) singer-songwriter makes beautiful, brutal music that wrestles with grief, pain, and the struggles of faith."
In 2021 and 2022 he also released books called Poet Priest Vol.1 and Poet Priest Vol.2, respectively. In Nov 2024 he released Poet Priest Vol 3. They are each compilations of essays about being content with living a small, faithful life.

Separated by 2,781 miles and on two different continents, Iraqi and Nigerian Christians share similar stories of persecution. From 2014-2018, portions of Northern Iraq were under the control of the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and many religious minorities, including Christians, experienced persecution and violence as a result. In the northern and central portions of Nigeria, violence towards Christians and other minority groups has also increased in recent years at the hands of Boko Haram and other groups.
The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center is honored to share the stories of those displaced in Iraq and Nigeria through Among the Persecuted and Displaced — a collection of photographs taken by Stephen Rasche. The Knights of Columbus has sponsored some of Rasche’s work in both countries, bringing to light the atrocities inflicted on those persecuted for their faith.

You’re invited to an online intimate conversation with bestselling author Rachelle Bergstein as she chats about her newest book The Genius of Judy. This book takes an expansive look at Judy Blume’s life, work, and cultural impact, focusing on her most iconic—and controversial—young adult novels, from Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret to Blubber.
Everyone knows Judy Blume.
Her books have garnered her fans of all ages for decades and sold tens of millions of copies. But why were people so drawn to them? And why are we still talking about them now in the 21st century?
In The Genius of Judy, her remarkable story is revealed as never before, beginning with her as a mother of two searching for purpose outside of her home in 1960s suburban New Jersey. The books she wrote starred regular children with genuine thoughts and problems. But behind those deceptively simple tales, Blume explored the pillars of the growing women’s rights movement, in which girls and women were entitled to careers, bodily autonomy, fulfilling relationships, and even sexual pleasure. Blume wasn’t trying to be a revolutionary—she just wanted to tell honest stories—but in doing so, she created a cohesive, culture-altering vision of modern adolescence.
Blume’s bravery provoked backlash, making her the country’s most-banned author in the mid-1980s. Thankfully, her works withstood those culture wars and it’s no coincidence that Blume has resurfaced as a cultural touchstone now. Young girls are still cat-called, sex education curricula are getting dismissed as pornography, and entire shelves of libraries are being banned. As we face these challenges, it’s only natural we look to Blume, the grand dame of so-called dirty books. This is the story of how a housewife became a groundbreaking artist, and how generations of empowered fans are her legacy, today more than ever.

🎭 Come Experience Unbecoming Tragedy at Long Wharf Theatre
What does it mean to reclaim your narrative?
Stripped of everything but his imagination, a struggling actor transforms his prison cell into an unexpected stage. When all that remains is you—how do you rewrite your fate?
This groundbreaking world premiere is the culminating production of Long Wharf Theatre’s 60th Season and was developed through our New Works Initiative. Written and performed by New Haven artist Terrence Riggins , the piece draws from his lived experience as an artist in prison, where imagination became survival and storytelling became a form of liberation.
Presented in partnership with Collective Consciousness Theatre , Unbecoming Tragedy invites audiences into a transformative ritual—where theatre becomes a tool for reckoning, healing, and reclaiming power.

Hot off last year's LP Maze Envy, Civerous (LA death metal) comes to Milford CT with support from Degraved (Seattle death metal) and Sea of Bones (CT doom)
Civerous
Upon hearing ‘Decrepit Flesh Relic’, the first album from Civerous, one was left with a feeling of intense suffocating weight and agonal prostration in the service of bone-breaking death hymns. With the towering new album, ‘Maze Envy’, LA’s most creatively destructive Death / Doom ensemble let loose a freshly evolved but no less brutal conflagration of immersive horror and morbid lamentation.
Where Death / Doom may often stay in safe and unadventurous realms of narrow focus, ‘Maze Envy’ presents a more far-reaching breadth of ambition, where unusual technicality, progressive atmospheres, string flourishes and chaotic mysticism radiate a purple light of the soul’s ascension from the black oceans of dread Civerous inhabit. Chain-dragging dirge, blackened blasting, and the savage ferocity of Lord Foul’s hellish vocal exorcisms exalt ‘Maze Envy’ with a hellish grandeur within its myriad paths to oblivion.
With a massively crushing sound, ‘Maze Envy’ is end times music for an age in which that reckoning feels unfathomably close. Civerous batter the senses into a state of labyrinthian turmoil from which emergence is ever more implausible.
Degraved
Sea of Bones
Formed in New Haven, CT in early 2005. Creating heavy, atmospheric, droning, aggressive music.
"The Earth Wants Us Dead is a powerful and chilling vision... Sea Of Bones have crafted a haunting and exhilarating masterpiece that should cement their reputation as one of the heaviest and most creative bands currently out there." -The Sludgelord.

Did you know that the White House was nearly torn down during the Truman administration? New Haven architect Douglas Orr was instrumental in saving much of it. New Haven Museum (NHM) will celebrate National Preservation Month on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., as Cynthia Wrightsman and Douglas Orr Loganwill present, “Douglas Orr: Connecticut and Beyond.” The free lecture will be preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m. Register here.
Orr designed the World War One Memorial Flagpole on the New Haven Green, and the Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library in Branford, Connecticut. He went on to receive national acclaim. “A talented and prolific architect, Douglas Orr, of Stony Creek, Branford, Connecticut, was active in his community and built a national legacy,” says Wrightsman. She notes that two of Orr’s buildings have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places: The New Haven Lawn Club, and the former Southern New England Telephone Company headquarters on Church Street, New Haven.
Orr began designing houses in the 1920s, soon after he graduated from Yale University. In 1926 he opened his own firm in New Haven. Between the 1920s and 1950s, Orr’s architectural firm had a huge impact on New Haven. He had his hand in everything, from municipal buildings, low-income housing, Yale University building additions and alterations, hospitals, churches, and homes.

Unbecoming Tragedy: A Ritual Journey Toward Destiny
By now, you probably know the story.
In 2015 , we began as a grassroots community conversation platform—bringing people together across Connecticut to engage in brave dialogue and offer anti-bias and anti-racism workshops that challenged systems, sparked reflection, and built collective understanding.
Four years in, the work evolved. We expanded our services to focus on strategic communications and public relations, launching a first-of-its-kind model for anti-racist public relations. It was bold. It was necessary. And it worked.
Now, a decade after we first took on the name "The Narrative Project", we’re still here—and stronger than ever.
Today, we offer anti-racist public relations consulting to mission-driven organizations not just in Connecticut but across the country. From community-based nonprofits to national coalitions, we've helped shape narratives rooted in equity and justice.
And we didn’t do any of it alone. Along the way, we’ve partnered with more than 100 incredible organizations—each one committed to building a more just and liberated world. These partnerships have shaped us, taught us, and reminded us that true change is always a collective effort.
So, to mark this milestone, we’re throwing a celebration—and you’re invited.
Join us at our New Haven office for an evening of cocktails, community, and storytelling as we honor the journey and the people who made it possible.
This is a free event, but we invite you to contribute. All proceeds will go directly toward supporting our mission and continuing the work we began 10 years ago.
We can’t wait to celebrate with you.

In keeping with the historic location of Ball and Socket Arts which was a manufacturing facility, “Boardslide” is an exhibition focusing on the ability of fine artists to translate the form of a skateboard through their creativity.
The gap between sports and art is wide mainly due to preconceived notions. Fine artists often find themselves compelled to defend creation of utility items which are termed as craft as if it is in any way a genre of lesser importance. Likewise, sports equipment is usually not associated with fine art. In a complex world where a case can be made for all forms of creation to be connected through artistic as well as economic means, what better than the motif of a simple toy like a skateboard to form the basis of inspiration for a group of contemporary artists?
The materials are diverse as is the aesthetic of each participating artist.
Featured Artists:
Paul Baylock; Alan Bisbort; Tamhja Coe, Michaela Gorski; Deborah Hesse; Chelsea Marti; Mike Mindera; Sarah Nguyen; and Rashmi Talpade

Stripped of everything but his imagination, a struggling actor transforms his prison cell into an unexpected stage.

Unbecoming Tragedy: A Ritual Journey Toward Destiny
Oddfellows Playhouse Teen Repertory Company presents Everybody May 15 - 24. All performances will be held at Oddfellows Playhouse, 128 Washington Street, Middletown.
Everybody is a fast-paced contemporary adaptation of the medieval morality play “Everyman”, in which an individual struggles facing their own death and is forced to confront the meaning of life. Written by contemporary playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (whose most recent play, Purpose, is currently on Broadway), Everybody was a finalist for the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Everybody, which features a cast of 16 performers ages 14 -20, is directed by Hannah Simms. Scenic Design is by Dan Schmidt, Costume Design by Christian Milik, Sound Design by Joseph Getter, Lighting Design by Aaron Westcott, and Properties Design by Pam Lang.
Director Simms says “A morality play is an apt choice for a moment in which our national morality is being put to the test. Everybody is a wickedly funny play that explores what morality and mortality look like in our disconnected culture, and this cast of brilliant young actors are tackling it with bravery and sensitivity.”
Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for kids and students. “Big Hearted Oddfellow” tickets are available for $25 for anyone who really loves and values theater and its impact on the lives of young people.
Thursday, May 15 at 7 pm is a “Pay-What-You-Can” Preview. Performances will be at 7 pm on May 16, 17, 23 and 24, and at 4 pm on Sunday, May 18.
Everybody is presented through special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC.
Tickets may be purchased at https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/oddfellowsplayhouse/everybody-by-branden-jacobs-jenkins
For more information, call (860) 347-6143, email info@oddfellows.org, or go to www.oddfellows.org.

MAYDAY PARADE
Mayday Parade – vocalist Derek Sanders, drummer/vocalist Jake Bundrick, guitarists Alex Garcia and Brooks Betts and bassist/vocalist Jeremy Lenzo – will be celebrating 20 years together in 2025. As they welcome this career milestone, the Tallahassee, Florida, five-piece is set to release perhaps their most aspirational and ambitious effort yet: a three-part album showcasing their prolific, emotionally resonant songwriting. The first entry, Sweet, arrives April 18, 2025, and is led by the effervescent bounce of “By The Way,” a pitch-perfect blend of what’s made Mayday Parade a genre mainstay for decades: a tender, piano-led groove ultimately giving way to a crush of stereo guitars, ascendent melodies, and heart-on-sleeve lyricism.
“Being in a band for this long, sometimes you feel like you’re getting it right and sometimes you feel like you’re dancing around what you should be doing. This song feels locked in as a step in the right direction. It’s a song about trying to stay optimistic as the world and everything you know is changing around you. We hope you all enjoy it.” – Derek Sanders on “By The Way”
Sweet succinctly showcases just how far Mayday Parade has come in the past two decades featuring the trademark sound that’s transformed them from genre newcomers to torchbearers for a new generation. Recorded with longtime producers, multiplatinum engineers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (All Time Low, Jimmy Eat World), the trilogy of releases will serve as Mayday Parade’s eight full-length studio album and first LP since 2021’s What It Means To Fall Apart. The new three-part album is also the band’s first self-released collection since 2006’s Tales Told By Dead Friends EP that Mayday Parade sold in parking lots across the country as they followed that year’s Vans Warped Tour.
“Being a band for 20 years feels big and we wanted to do something big to match that. Our next release will be a large album split up into three different parts. It feels like a challenge and an exciting step forward for the band. Our goal is to take the things we’ve learned and the ways we’ve grown and apply them towards an ambitious release. We’re incredibly thankful for the opportunity to continue to create music and we cannot wait to share Part 1 - titled ‘Sweet’ - with the world.” – Derek Sanders on Sweet
Since first forming in 2005 Mayday Parade has graced the covers of Alternative Press and Rock Sound, been featured in Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Kerrang, twice headlined Sad Summer Festival (a festival they co-founded six years ago), performed as a feature act at 2024’s When We Were Young festival, and are already announced for this year’s event in Las Vegas on October 18th. They’ve also been a featured act at Riot Fest and Slam Dunk, done numerous headline tours as well as support slots and just last year Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders joined Dashboard Confessional’s “Emo SuperJam” at Bonnaroo Music & Art Festival.
As one of the most enduring acts to rise from the underground in the mid-aughts, Mayday Parade has soundtracked both adolescence and adulthood for millions of listeners. Their music stands synonymous with the emo and pop-punk genres: 2007’s A Lesson In Romantics, their debut LP is gold certified and has been hailed as one of the best – and most influential – emo albums of all time by Alternative Press. Monsters In The Closet, their 2013 release, debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, and tracks like the platinum-selling “Jamie All Over,” gold-certified “Miserable At Best” and “Oh Well, Oh Well” represent not only widespread commercial acclaim, but the sort of artist-audience relationship that’s fortified them across changing musical landscapes and the ebb and flow of an unforgiving industry.
Now, with Sweet set to launch and the project’s remaining two releases waiting in the wings later this year and into 2026, it’s undoubtedly a good time to be a Mayday Parade fan. The only thing better? Being in Mayday Parade these days, riding high on a renewed sense of confidence, clarity and creativity that acts rarely feel this far into a career. Fans can hear “By The Way” and “Pretty Good To Feel Something” (released last summer) now and look for tour dates and more new music in the weeks leading up to the April 18th release.

MICROWAVE
From start to finish, Let’s Start Degeneracy marks a liberated new chapter for Microwave, one unbound by realities other than their own. Recorded between Atlanta and Nashville and later mixed by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Bad Religion) and mastered by Brad Blackwood (Maroon 5, Lamb of God), the long-awaited fourth full-length record from Microwave, is a trip. Its title, taken from a conservative politician's take on drugs in 1970, captures the band's newfound liberated spirit, and its tracks play by no one's rules but their own. At various points the Atlanta trio of vocalist/guitarist Nathan Hardy, bassist Tyler Hill, and drummer Timothy “Tito” Pittard pull together a multitude of influences ranging from ambient pop and R&B to psychedelia and yes, even Sublime.
Lyrically, Let's Start Degeneracy is loaded with revelations, some of which came to Hardy after experiences with ayahuasca in Peru with Tito. As the pandemic wound down, the two reconvened with bassist/vocalist Tyler Hill and together, found their way back to being Microwave again.
“It’s about letting go of attachments and behaviors that aren’t serving you and trying to shake off your programming and not be motivated by fear and guilt and shame,” says Hardy. “It’s about learning to be happy and take care of yourself.”
