Simon O’Reilly’s work explores the intersections of image-making, narrative form, and emerging technology. Drawing from disciplines such as sculpture, visual effects, cinema, and digital animation, he creates audiovisual experiences that question perception, materiality, and the emotional weight of images. Whether projecting a film in a darkened room, composing digitally altered video, or experimenting with motion capture and game engines, O’Reilly is interested in how screens mediate memory, identity, and presence.
This exhibition brings together a series of self-directed works that explore speculative image-making, ritual, and the boundaries of narrative structure. At its center is Elsewhere, a silent black-and-white short film that follows a solitary oyster harvester encountering a creature made of shells. The work is contemplative and immersive, and this installation is designed to mirror the film’s pacing—slowed, reflective, and intimate. The creature’s costume, which will be exhibited separately, serves as a sculptural anchor that expands the film’s mythology beyond the screen.
Surrounding Elsewhere are smaller works: early short films, digital experiments, motion-captured fragments, and animated 3D prints. These pieces lean into genre—science fiction, speculative fiction, surrealism—but are modest in tone. They were created during moments of curiosity, when experimenting with new tools or aesthetics. Many contain humor, abstraction, or visual ambiguity, and most were made independently, outside the larger collaborative film environment O’Reilly often works in.
Simon O’Reilly’s is a Middletown based media artist, filmmaker and cinematographer. He is an adjunct instructor in CT State Middlesex’s New Media Production program and teaching Film Production this fall semester. O’Reilly holds degrees from Concordia University (Montréal, Canada) and from Middlesex Community College (Middletown, CT).

This exhibition will be on view at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music’s Miller Hall at 406 Prospect Street, New Haven from October 9 - December 5 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12 - 4 p.m., except for Thanksgiving week, when the ISM is closed.
Lucasen Brown: Stanza presents a series of twenty intimate-scaled abstract paintings developed during Brown's time at Yale Institute of Sacred Music/Yale Divinity School (2023-2025). The exhibition also includes a selection of works on paper with corresponding poems by 2025 ISM graduate Emily Chan from a small book-length collaboration.
Each painting has an association for the artist: a life event, a place, a feeling, a person. Brown explores ways the painting process weaves memory, trauma and spiritual repair: "Wholeness, to me, is when I am just a painter in the world who allows a world of feeling into my abstract paintings—a place where everything belongs.” The paintings hold space for viewers to consider their own healing through faith, noticing, and remaining open to uncertainty.
Paint, for Brown, becomes both a surface and a subject. The artist hopes the paintings evoke corporeality, silence, interiority, and sacred everydayness. The repetition of marks on the painting surfaces is meditative and accretive.
The paintings are informed by textile, specifically Lenore Tawney's open-warp weavings; art movements including Minimalism and Pattern Painting and Decoration; and essays, namely Roland Barthes' theory of text and textile.
The exhibition traces the paintings’ transition from grid-based abstraction to a more intuitive and emotionally attuned process that pushes beyond the limitation of the grid. The artist realized his painting world, emotional and liberative, could no longer be confined to a grid.
Free and open to the public.
Exhibition curated by Lucasen Brown.
All are welcome to join us for an opening reception for this art exhibit on Wednesday, October 8 at 5 p.m.

From Frank Pepe’s original hat to celebrity-signed pizza boxes (including Gwyneth Paltrow and Yogi Berra!), if you love the crust, the crunch and the char of New Haven apizza, or simply have strong views on what comprises a good pie, you’ll find something to feed your personal pizza passion in the new exhibit “Pronounced Ah-Beetz,” open now at the New Haven Museum (NHM) through October 2027.
“Pronounced Ah-Beetz” examines the fun, the flavor and the history of pizza, including its origin as an affordable means of feeding workers in the fields of Italy, and how it became the food of the poor in the U.S. The Italian migration to New Haven gave way to Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana, which gave birth to Sally’s Apizza, while a mile away Tony’s Apizza became Modern. How these three establishments became among the most iconically loved pizza restaurants in the country is a major focus.
While the exhibit highlights the “Big 3” original apizza spots in New Haven, it also extends through the family tree of New Haven pizzerias to present a picture of family, food and community that includes a host of other local pizzerias, including: Ernie’s, Zuppardi’s, BAR, Zeneli’s, Olde World, and the Big Green Pizza Truck, among others.

Emerging Autumn

Sharon Lee Mullen-Reynolds knew in High School that she was to be an Art teacher. That is exactly what she did; for 36 years she taught Visual Art in the city of New Haven. Her career hi-light was teaching 22 years at the Betsy Ross Arts Magnet Middle School. During her tenure there she was a published Fellow at Yale N.H.Teachers Institute for 2 years, the Department Chairperson for 8 years and creator of As Far As The Eye Can See a school-wide art exhibit.
Since her retirement in 2016, she has been attending numerous art exhibits and installations locally and in NYC, specifically Frida Kahlo’s exhibit at the Brooklyn Art Museum which led her to create Frida- inspired floral headpieces. In 2017 she started The Kindness Rock art installation at the Branford Festival.
Sharon is an artist who believes that art can heal your soul. In 2022 she sold her headpieces at the Ukrainian Roman Catholic church for the benefit of Ukraine’s War effort and donated 5 Ukrainian Strong “Petals for Peace” paintings to raise additional funds. These paintings were showcased on Channel 8 news.
In addition to her headpieces, Sharon works in mixed-media, crafts, collage, and watercolor landscape en plein air. Sharon’s artwork has been exhibited at City-Wide Open Studios, The ARTS Council, Calligraphers Guild, and is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.

In recent years, the process of acquiring, managing, and reporting data for projects and programs has grown increasingly complex—especially when teams rely on multiple systems, spreadsheets, and other siloed data sources.
These fragmented methods often lead to inefficiencies and compromise the quality of data and reporting. In this session, we’ll explore how Microsoft Fabric, a powerful end-to-end data engineering platform, is designed to break down these silos, simplify data integration, and significantly reduce the time and effort required to extract, transform, and report on data.
Whether supporting small projects or large-scale programs, Fabric enables teams to access and work with data where it resides—driving faster, more informed decision-making and data quality.
In this discussion we will talk about:
- What Is Fabric?
- How is Fabric Different from Power BI
- How is Fabric Different from the Power Platform
- Introduction to End -To-End Data Engineering Model
- Key Fabric Workloads / Use Cases
How Microsoft Fabric could revolutionize Project & Program Data Management

Writer and editor Lauren O’Neill-Butler is blessing the bookspace with a talk about her new book, [The War of Art](https://www.possiblefuturesbooks.com/item/cQ0CGOT0rSmwgiAKXD5hQ)_, which investigates crucial political additions to art history. Lauren will be in conversation with scholar Alex Fialho.
More about the book:
How artists have changed America through direct action Artists in America have long battled against injustices, believing that art can in fact “do more.”
The War of Art tells this history of artist-led activism and the global political and aesthetic debates of the 1960s to the present. In contrast to the financialized art market and celebrity artists, the book explores the power of collective effort — from protesting to philanthropy, and from wheat pasting to planting a field of wheat.
Lauren O’Neill-Butler charts the post-war development of artists’ protest and connects these struggles to a long tradition of feminism and civil rights activism. The book offers portraits of the key individuals and groups of artists who have campaigned for solidarity, housing, LGBTQ+, HIV/AIDS awareness, and against Indigenous injustice and the exclusion of women in the art world. This includes: the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition (BECC), Women Artists in Revolution (WAR), David Wojnarowicz’s work with ACT UP, Top Value Television (TVTV), Agnes Denes, Edgar Heap of Birds, Dyke Action Machine! (DAM!), fierce pussy, Project Row Houses, and Nan Goldin’s Prescription Addiction Intervention Now (PAIN).
Based upon in-depth oral histories with the key figures in these movements, and illustrated throughout, The War of Art is an essential corrective to the idea that art history excludes politics.
More about Lauren:
Lauren O’Neill-Butler is a New York-based writer and editor. She has written for Aperture, Art Journal, Bookforum, and The New York Times, among many others, and has also contributed essays to many exhibition catalogues. She received a Warhol Foundation Art Writers Grant in 2020 and the Beverley Art Writers Travel Grant in 2023._
She holds graduate degrees in art history and philosophy, and has been a visiting critic at Cooper Union, Stony Brook University, USC, Rutgers, Yale, and the University of Chicago. She is currently a part-time faculty member at Hunter College and the New School and has previously taught courses at the School of Visual Arts and RISD. September 15 - October 27, 2025
Opening Reception on Wednesday September 17, 5:00-7:00pm at Pegasus Gallery.

Poems of Praise: The Lana Schwebel Memorial Lecture with Kevin Young
The American painter Martin Johnson Heade captured the majesty of Jamaica’s high mountains in his 1874 painting Tropical Uplands. Using Heade’s canvas as a starting point, Louis P. Nelson, Professor of Architectural History and Vice Provost for Academic Outreach, University of Virginia, examines the world it depicts and Jamaica’s place in the evolving economies of empire. Nelson reveals how local architecture adapted to the Caribbean’s violent climate and how the island’s geography shaped its populations, from the British-controlled coastal lowlands that were defined by enslaved labor to the seclusion of the high mountains that became a refuge for Maroons, self-emancipators who reconstituted themselves in free Black communities. Trade to and from the island—including exotic tropical hardwoods, foodstuffs, luxury wares, and even whole house frames—connected Jamaica to the North American mainland, to the western ports of the United Kingdom, and to the coast of Africa. Within this exchange of goods, peoples, and ideas, a creole culture emerged that shaped all aspects of Jamaican life, from furniture design to social mores. As Caribbean-derived wealth flowed back to North America and England, Jamaica emerged as a complex and central node within the greater Atlantic World.
Established to honor the memory of Andrew Carnduff Ritchie, director of the Yale University Art Gallery from 1957 to 1971, the annual Andrew Carnduff Ritchie Lecture, jointly sponsored by the Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art, brings distinguished members of the international visual arts community to the University. These lectures honor Ritchie’s belief that the art museum should serve as a gathering place for all members of the community. Generously sponsored by the Andrew Carnduff Ritchie Fund.

Create Community: Imagined Worlds in the art of William Blake and Hew Locke
In recent years, art museums have increasingly focused on offering experiences of learning, socialization, and self-determination to all visitors, including those who are neurodivergent. As repositories of the visual arts, art museums have great potential to engage neurodivergent visitors through the richness and complexity of their collections. However, museums often unwittingly maintain barriers to access. Tension continues to exist between the traditional role of museums as institutions dedicated to the preservation of collections and their role as spaces in which that collection is available to a diverse public.
The goal of empowering neurodivergent people to visit museums on their own terms is a multidisciplinary effort, often relying on input from the fields of medicine, public health, architecture, engineering, design, and museum education. This symposium, “Neurodivergence and Art Museums,” brings together voices from these fields to discuss recent developments in the accessibility and ease of experiencing cultural spaces and future possibilities for the inclusion of neurodivergent audiences.
One of the symposium’s guiding questions will be: How can we imagine art museums as public spaces that embrace and engage individuals with a diverse range of neuro-abilities, and create opportunities for dialogue, connection, and innovation? Panelists will address the process of creating neuro-inclusive environments from the experience of neurodivergence; audiences for neuro-inclusive design; and the ways in which neurodivergent visitors can discover, navigate, and make use of these environments. These cross-disciplinary discussions will explore how different fields engage and embrace neurodivergent visitors and consider how art museums can look to interdisciplinary solutions to open their spaces to the neurodivergent community.
In addition to the programming, First Place–Phoenix, a residential community school in Phoenix, AZ, is supporting exhibitions of art by keynote speaker Stuart Neilson at New Alliance Foundation Art Gallery at CT State Gateway and at Chapel Haven Schleifer Center, a residential school in New Haven for adults with social and cognitive disabilities, from October 23 through November 21, 2025.

Neurodivergence and Art Museums
Stuart Neilson, PhD, in conversation with Justin Berry, Creative Producer / Project Director XRPeds Lab, The Yale Center for Immersive Technologies in Pediatrics
As a writer, image-maker, and lecturer in statistics, Stuart Neilson uses his personal experience as an individual with an autism diagnosis to map barriers to access in museums. His keynote will explore how neurodivergent people experience place and space within art museums, as well as how we might advance our understanding of those experiences and address the needs of neurodivergent people in art museums. Using heat-map and stop-motion photography, his photographs visualize the movement within and transitions between spaces in museums, exhibitions, and galleries, and the circulation around them, including the urban streetscape. He is particularly interested in how photography can draw attention to the transitions between spaces and to barriers to access, such as anxiety about entrances, to showcase how “unremarkable” spaces can be difficult for neurodivergent individuals to access.

Schnitzel Dinner at Meriden Turner Halle
Considering Everclear has written and recorded some truly iconic ’90s alt-rock hits, it would be all too easy these days for the band to be a victim of its past successes, relegated to performing as a glorified jukebox, existing to satisfy the nostalgic cravings of Gen Xers everywhere. But singer-guitarist Art Alexakis isn’t about to start phoning it in now.
Although the band hasn’t released a new studio album since 2015’s triumphant Black Is The New Black, Everclear continues to tour actively, in conjunction with a series of past-release anniversary dates and the annual Summerland Tour, which Alexakis created and has been running since 2012, featuring a rotating cast of ’90s alt rock favorites. And while it’s a virtual surety that no Everclear gig is complete without a rendition of “Santa Monica” and “Father of Mine,” lately the band has found that exploring the full range of past material—especially the “deep cuts”—not only gives fans a rare treat, it also injects new life into the band’s live dynamic.
“By mixing it up and digging into the catalogue, it still makes it fun and relevant for us, and I think for the fans as well,” says Alexakis. “It’s still important to play the hits, but by playing those other songs as well, it makes it all seem more vibrant and real. Even though I recorded some of those songs 20 years ago, I haven’t played them in a long time, so it’s like reinventing the wheel. I’m having more fun now than I have in years. I think all of us are.”
Formed by Alexakis in 1991 in Portland, Oregon, Everclear has enjoyed a lengthy career spanning 11 studio releases, numerous videos, thousands of shows and accolades that include a 1998 Grammy nomination. Like a true survivor, Alexakis has soldiered on through multiple lineup changes over the years: During the “classic” era, the band also included Craig Montoya on Bass and Greg Eklund on drums; the current touring lineup features longtime members Dave French (guitar) and Freddy Herrera (bass), as well as drummer Brian Nolan (also with American Hi-Fi), who has performed with Everclear on multiple past tours.
This incarnation of the band will hit the road for the 2018 Summerland Tour. As in prior years, Everclear will headline the latest installment of the festival, this time supported by Marcy Playground and Local H, and also featuring a special DJ set Alexakis will contribute, which honors the ’90s in a refreshingly old-school way.
“The Summerland Tours are all unique; they all have a different kind of feel to them,” says Alexakis. “I think this year will be really cool, because it’s usually guitar-based, but Marcy Playground is more acoustic-based, yet they still rock in their own way. Local H is just two guys, meanwhile, and they’re great, too. So, it’s just a different look at ’90s alternative this year…different facets of what it’s about. With Everclear, we’re going to play the hits we always play, but we’re also going to mix it up. Every night will be a little different; there’ll be a few surprises every show.”
For Alexakis and Co., it’s a continuation of a hectic couple of years. Everclear spent May and June of 2017 touring in honor of the 20th anniversary of So Much For The Afterglow, the band’s massively successful sophomore major-label release. The 40-date run was an incredibly emotional and personally satisfying experience for Alexakis, who was able to perform obscure cuts from that time period for the first time in many years. Connecting with fans in that setting also reinforced the lasting impression the album has made.
“The tour was phenomenal. It left me and the band stunned at how important that record was to so many people, and to be a part of that, both then and now,” says Alexakis. “The legacy of it is still vibrant for so many people. It was great just watching people react when we were playing not just the hits, but deeper songs on that record. I always liked the deeper songs—they were usually my favorite songs—and when the band would play those, it would be really exciting and important for me. That was fun, seeing that reaction, and just talking to people after the show.”
Prior to that, Everclear experienced a career resurgence thanks to 2015’s Black Is The New Black, which not only proved the band could still rock, but also that Everclear remains creatively relevant, decades after their platinum years. As is common for many artists these days, Black didn’t set records for traditional album sales, but the release did see significant streaming activity and sparked a heightened social media presence, putting the group firmly back in the listening public’s mind. The band continues to ride this latest wave of interest.
“I personally think [Black] is one of the best records Everclear has ever made,” Alexakis says. “It sounds like both old Everclear and new Everclear: It has a contemporary production sound, but it’s just old-school, angry rock songs. It’s kind of dark, very reminiscent of the early stuff. The sales weren’t great on it, but a lot of people streamed it. It got millions and millions of streams, so people were listening to it, and it resonated.”
But when you’ve been a prolific band for more than a quarter-century, it’s all part of the journey. Right now, Alexakis is feeling a reflective pull for the 25th anniversary of World Of Noise, the band’s indie debut, which was recorded for $400 in a friend’s basement in Portland. Although no official commemorative tour dates are confirmed as of this writing, Alexakis says he’s considering playing some smaller, select shows this year as a tribute to the release. Much of the material rarely sees the light of day, but the 1993 album continues to enjoy a special place in Everclear history.
“We’d just had a baby, I was on public assistance and was working part-time jobs, I was very frustrated and very angry and there were a lot of emotions going on,” Alexakis reflects. “I made that record for $400, because that’s all I had. I got this guy who had a basement studio to give me 40 hours’ worth of recording at $10 an hour. We had 10 or 11 songs, so we went in and recorded them in a week and mixed them, and that’s the album.…From there we just hit the ground running. I still haven’t stopped.”
That rough and raw first attempt was just the nexus of the massive body of work Everclear and Alexakis have contributed since that humble beginning. When it comes to recording new material, at the moment Alexakis is focused primarily on writing and recording his first solo album, due out later this year. That precludes a new Everclear release…for now.
“We might make another record in a couple years,” he says. “Maybe later on this year I’ll feel like it. I don’t know yet.”
That said, the band’s live itinerary certainly makes up for its recent studio absence. As the group prepares for another Summerland run, as well as numerous other future dates, Alexakis is excited to revisit songs from fan favorite records like Afterglow, Sparkle and Fade and the double album Songs From The American Movie, but also compositions from more underrated collections, like 2012’s Invisible Stars.
“There are people asking for songs, so we’ll just try and learn songs as we go,” Alexakis says. “If we get a lot of response from people to play a certain song, we’re going to learn it and go on the road and play it. You don’t think, ‘Wow, I can’t sing that high anymore.’ We’re not going to worry about it. We’re going to play some rock n’ roll, and just do it.”
