THE MOSES GUNN PLAY COMPANY PRESENTS:
Veteran actor/writer Norman Thomas Marshall will appear in his farewell performance in a reading of JOHN BROWN: TRUMPET OF FREEDOM, the story of John Brown, the legendary American abolitionist, who advocated for armed insurrection as the only way to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States. Mr. Marshall portrays all 30 colorful characters telling the story of Brown wanting to start a slave rebellion movement that would spread south. Ultimately he lead a raid on the federal armory at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia (today West Virginia) in 1859, but only a small number of slaves joined the movement. Brown was ultimately captured, tried and executed for the raid and incitement of a slave rebellion. Written by Marshall and director George Wolf Reily, Marshall has performed this show in the United States and Europe.
NORMAN THOMAS MARSHALL is a screen, stage and radio actor, and has participated in more than 300 productions. He made his New York stage debut in 1967 playing the title role in Ronald Tavel’s ridiculous classic GORILLA QUEEN. He is the co-founder (along with George Wolf) and was artistic director of the off-off Broadway No Smoking Playhouse from 1974-1985. During his long career Marshall has shared the stage with Raul Julia, Moses Gunn, F. Murray Abraham, Harvey Fierstein, Robert Guillaume, Burt Reynolds, Barbra Streisand, Telly Salvalas, and Fritz Weaver. He also appeared numerous times in a variety of daytime television dramas, and is a familiar voice for some of the animated spots shown on the popular children’s TV program Sesame Street.
