Description

Whether you’re a daily commuter, a new rider, or a weekend cruiser, every cyclist should know how to care for their bike. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to spot common issues, perform on-the-go adjustments, and handle basic maintenance to keep your ride smooth, safe, and road-ready. We’ll also cover how to prep your bike for fall storage as riding season winds down.

What to Expect

This class is ideal for new riders who want to feel more confident before every ride. You’ll get familiar with your bike’s key components and learn how to assess, adjust, and maintain them. Hands-on practice includes fixing a flat, cleaning your drivetrain, and doing quick adjustments on brakes and shifting. You’ll leave with a working toolkit checklist, a personalized maintenance routine, and the skills to stay safe and self-sufficient on the road.

This class is part of MakeHaven’s Ready to Repair series—hands-on workshops that empower you to tackle common household and personal repairs with confidence.

Bringing your own bike is strongly recommended, but not required.

Skills You’ll Acquire

• Perform an ABC Quick Check and identify red-flag issues

• Fix a flat (tube tire) and reseat a tire without pinching the tube

• Clean and lubricate your chain and drivetrain correctly

• Adjust rim or disc brakes and shifting for quick in-the-field fixes

• Set tire pressure and saddle height within safe, comfortable ranges

• Build a personal on-bike toolkit and maintenance checklist

• Understand what to do before storing your bike for the off-season

What’s Provided

• All tools and repair stands for in-class use

• Sample bikes for hands-on practice (or bring your own!)

• Instruction and troubleshooting guidance from an experienced bike mechanic
