🎭 Come Experience Unbecoming Tragedy at Long Wharf Theatre
What does it mean to reclaim your narrative?
Stripped of everything but his imagination, a struggling actor transforms his prison cell into an unexpected stage. Unbecoming Tragedy: A Ritual Journey Toward Destiny is a gripping, poetic exploration of resilience, identity, and the redemptive power of storytelling. When all that remains is you—how do you rewrite your fate?
This groundbreaking world premiere is the culminating production of Long Wharf Theatre’s 60th Season and was developed through our New Works Initiative. Written and performed by New Haven artist Terrence Riggins , the piece draws from his lived experience as an artist in prison, where imagination became survival and storytelling became a form of liberation.
Presented in partnership with Collective Consciousness Theatre , Unbecoming Tragedy invites audiences into a transformative ritual—where theatre becomes a tool for reckoning, healing, and reclaiming power.

Separated by 2,781 miles and on two different continents, Iraqi and Nigerian Christians share similar stories of persecution. From 2014-2018, portions of Northern Iraq were under the control of the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and many religious minorities, including Christians, experienced persecution and violence as a result. In the northern and central portions of Nigeria, violence towards Christians and other minority groups has also increased in recent years at the hands of Boko Haram and other groups.
The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center is honored to share the stories of those displaced in Iraq and Nigeria through Among the Persecuted and Displaced — a collection of photographs taken by Stephen Rasche. The Knights of Columbus has sponsored some of Rasche’s work in both countries, bringing to light the atrocities inflicted on those persecuted for their faith.

In keeping with the historic location of Ball and Socket Arts which was a manufacturing facility, “Boardslide” is an exhibition focusing on the ability of fine artists to translate the form of a skateboard through their creativity.
The gap between sports and art is wide mainly due to preconceived notions. Fine artists often find themselves compelled to defend creation of utility items which are termed as craft as if it is in any way a genre of lesser importance. Likewise, sports equipment is usually not associated with fine art. In a complex world where a case can be made for all forms of creation to be connected through artistic as well as economic means, what better than the motif of a simple toy like a skateboard to form the basis of inspiration for a group of contemporary artists?
The materials are diverse as is the aesthetic of each participating artist.
Featured Artists:
Paul Baylock; Alan Bisbort; Tamhja Coe, Michaela Gorski; Deborah Hesse; Chelsea Marti; Mike Mindera; Sarah Nguyen; and Rashmi Talpade

Author and illustrator Noah Grigni will visit us in the bookspace to celebrate their debut picture book, Mama Moon. This story thoughtfully follows the journey of a child who notices that their mother’s moods come in phases, like the moon, and sometimes she can’t do what other mothers do. Join us for a special Mental Health Awareness Month reading about the love we give to our community, in sickness and in health, through the bright and the blue...
More about the book:
Deeply felt and beautifully told, Mama Moon is the story of a child who muses that their mother is like the moon—ever changing, sometimes blue, sometimes bright.
Mama loves warm summers, and eating cherries while stargazing with Baba and Kiddo. But on her bluest of days, she can’t do the things that other mamas do.
Persevering with love, no matter what phase Mama is in, this family weathers the ups and downs of a loved one's illness.
More about Noah:
Noah Grigni is a children's book author and illustrator living in Atlanta, GA. They make art in collaboration with their community, exploring themes of gender, ecology, care, dreams, interdependence, and abolition. Noah is the illustrator of It Feels Good To Be Yourself by Theresa Thorn (2019), The Every Body Book by Rachel Simon (2020), and The Every Body Book of Consent by Rachel Simon (2024). Their debut picture book as both author and illustrator, Mama Moon, came out on April 15th, 2025.

ELIZA & THE DELUSIONALS
Hailing from Pottsville, NSW, Eliza & The Delusionals have carved out a distinctive place in the indie pop-rock scene since their formation in 2017. Anchored by the magnetic presence of Eliza Klatt (vocals, guitar), the band’s lineup includes Kurt Skuse (guitar) and Ruby Lee (bass). Their music blends emotionally resonant lyrics with soaring melodies, striking a chord with audiences both in Australia and abroad.
2019 marked their international breakthrough with the release of Just Exist. The track resonated globally, securing high rotation on American radio, including SiriusXM AltNation, where it topped the Alt18 charts for an impressive 14 weeks. The song’s success earned the band Q Music’s Rock Song of the Year and Breakout Artist of the Year at the Gold Coast Music Awards in 2020. Riding this wave, Eliza & The Delusionals made their North American debut, supporting Silversun Pickups on a month-long tour that solidified their presence on the international stage.
Despite plans for 2020 being curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the band used the downtime creatively, crafting their debut album, Now And Then. Released in 2022, the album featured collaborations with industry heavyweights like Keith Harris (Black Eyed Peas) and Sarah Aarons (Zedd, Miley Cyrus). Critically acclaimed, Now And Then garnered a 4.5-star review from Rolling Stone Australia and was nominated for triple j’s J Award for Album of the Year. The album’s success spurred a sold-out national tour and a return to North America for festivals and another stint with Silversun Pickups.
2023 brought the recording of their sophomore album, Make It Feel Like The Garden released in full in late 2024. Written and recorded with collaborators including Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy) and mixed by Chris Collins (Royel Otis), the album features contributions from Brian Aubert (Silversun Pickups) and Butch Vig (Garbage, Nirvana). The lead single, Make It Feel Like The Garden, and its follow-up, Falling For You, showcased the band’s evolving sound and was showcased through multiple national tours across Australia.
Released in July 2024, Make It Feel Like The Garden debuted at #9 on the ARIA Top 50 Digital Albums chart, with further accolades across various categories. Plans for a national tour were temporarily postponed when Klatt sustained a hand injury requiring surgery, but her recovery saw the band return to form, touring North America with The Front Bottoms later that year.
With a dynamic blend of heartfelt songwriting and captivating live performances, Eliza & The Delusionals continue to prove they are a force to be reckoned with on the global stage. As they prepare for their rescheduled Australian tour in 2025, the band’s story remains one of resilience, creativity, and unrelenting passion for music.

Paul Baylock; Alan Bisbort; Tamhja Coe, Michaela Gorski; Deborah Hesse; Chelsea Marti; Mike Mindera; Sarah Nguyen; and Rashmi Talpade

There will be demonstrations of techniques that will help all levels. Pastels are a wonderful opportunity for those who want to continue to hone their drawing skills with the new dimension of color. Finally, fixative spraying will be reviewed including how many layers are necessary. The last two classes will focus on a more complicated still life set up in an effort to create a completed piece of artwork.

Owls are a true indicator of the health of our ecosystem according to owl rehabilitator and educator Gwen Rice. Only 1 in 4 survive their first year of life in the wild, with many losses human related. Rice, co-founder of Freedom First Wildlife Rehab, will present “Owls Among Us” at the historic Pardee-Morris House (PMH) on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. Free registration here.
During this special “opening day” presentation at PMH, Rice will discuss the eight species of owls found in Connecticut and advise visitors on how to protect them. She’ll bring along two live “owl ambassadors” for an up-close view.
Rice notes that as natural pest controllers, owls play a significant role in the food chain and keep the populations of their prey in check. Sadly, their lifestyle also exposes them to the lethal doses of rodenticides frequently used for household pest control. Rice will discuss rodenticides and other threats to Connecticut’s owls and offer visitors advice on how they can help protect them. “We encourage citizens to become good stewards of the environment by avoiding the use of poison, installing owl houses and supporting conservation efforts,” she says.
Rice spent 36 years as an occupational therapist, rehabilitating people. In 2016, she opted for something different. “As an avid owl enthusiast, it was a natural fit to turn my rehab skills towards these amazing birds,” she says. “I spent countless hours studying each species of owl, learning their behaviors and husbandry.” In need of a solid mentor, she traveled to El Paso, Arkansas, to the Raptor Center of Central Arkansas, and studied with Bird of Prey Rehabilitator Rodney Paul. Earning a federal permit to work independently with owls took five years; she and her husband, Rich, maintain permits from the state of Connecticut, USFW and USDA in order to perform this vital work.

📍 Location: Yale Off-Broadway Theater @ 41 Broadway, New Haven, CT 06511

Jessikah Díaz, PhD candidate in English, Yale University, will engage Turner’s “indistinct” Staffa with the period’s ambivalent attitude toward technological progress and its faint recognition of passing time.
When buyer James Lenox first saw J. M. W. Turner’s Staffa, Fingal’s Cave (1831–32), the painting’s “indistinctness” disappointed him. Whether Staffa’s dominating atmosphere or darkened color palette caused the displeasure, Turner’s first painting to enter an American collection fell flat. Jessikah Díaz considers Turner’s “indistinct” style as its own aesthetic category, one mediating his relationship between the shock and awe of Romanticism and the ordinariness of reality. By reconsidering Lenox’s comment, Díaz engages Turner’s “indistinct” Staffa with the period’s ambivalent attitude toward technological progress and its faint recognition of passing time.

These techniques will move your art to another level.
Regina Thomas’ collage and mixed media art is a mélange of visual stimuli, colors, and shapes involving different genres from the representational to the abstract. These multi-layered works portray her view of the world, never realistic, injecting her own narratives, metaphors, and icons. Regina works instinctually, and her desire is to stimulate and intrigue the viewer, make a connection, bringing their own experiences to the work.
Regina has lived and traveled throughout Asia and Europe. While in London, she attended Richmond University concentrating on the Art Disciplines as well as Studio classes. Upon her return to the states she continued refining her art through classes and workshops at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), The New Art Center in Newton – MA, South Shore Art Center – MA, West Hartford Art League, Creative Arts Workshop/New Haven, CT, Yale University and The British Art Museum.
Regina has been included in many juried exhibitions in New England. Thomas shows in private galleries and has private collectors across the U.S., Europe, South America and Asia.
