Suminagashi: The Art of Japanese Paper Marbling

Learn the ancient Japanese technique of printing from inks floating on water. This non-toxic method of decorating paper creates a very organic, fluid looking pattern. The process is hypnotic and meditative. After a brief lecture and demonstration, students will marble different paper that can be used in book arts, calligraphy, gift-wrapping, etc. Suminagshi is especially effective when combined with printmaking and collage techniques.
