Nontsikelelo Mutiti & David Jon Walker in Conversation with Special Guests

A conversation between two graphic designers about the power of visual language to create space and make the invisible visible. With live performance.
Nontsikelelo Mutiti and David Jon Walker first met when Walker was a student of Mutiti’s at the Yale School of Art. In this conversation, Mutiti and Walker reconnect as two working artists with pieces simultaneously on display at Yale Schwarzman Center: RUSUNUNGKO (liberty/ independence / freedom) by Mutiti, and Shining Light on Truth: Black Lives at Yale & in New Haven on which Walker is lead designer. The conversation will lead into a performance by poet Tobi Kassim , dancer Lacina Coulibaly , and vocalist Tanyaradzwa. At the culmination of the performance, the audience will be encouraged to take in the works of Mutiti and Walker with a fresh perspective, then return for a 7:30 performance by music artist Joy Guidry. (Please note that you must register separately to attend the Joy Guidry performance.)
Nontsikelelo Mutiti's work, RUSUNUNGUKO (liberty / independence / freedom), is on view in The Dome Gallery. David Jon Walker is the lead designer for Shining Light on Truth: Black Lives at Yale & in New Haven on view in The Presidents' Gallery and the Underground Gallery. Both works are free and open to the public and on view at Yale Schwarzman Center during the building's open hours.
