Milford Arts Council – MAC Performance Hall. One-of-a-kind composer, acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter. Hiroya, from Kyoto, Japan, is an innovative acoustic guitarist and composer who fuses folk, jazz, and world genres. He began playing the five-string banjo when he was thirteen, and took up the guitar shortly after.
Early Career. In 2000, Hiroya received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. He formed his own group in Boston “INTEROCEANICO (inter-oceanic)” which consists of unique musicians from different continents. The group released three acclaimed records (“The Other Side of the World”, “Confluencia” and “Where the River Shines”).
Influences. Hiroya’s musical influencers include vibraphonist Gary Burton, saxophonists Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, and folk music from Argentina and Brazil; classical influences include Aaron Copland and Gerald Finzi.
