Description

In this workshop participants learn to create a holiday floral arrangement made with sola wood flowers. The creations are sustainable, eco-friendly, and an economical alternative to real flowers. One of the most unique traits amongst all artificial floral arrangements is their beauty lasts forever.

Sola wood flowers are crafted from real wood from the Aeschynomene aspera, a species of flowering plants native to South East Asia. Every sola flower is created by hand and no machines are used. Every flower is composed of petals that are hand-cut from the delicate sola wooden sheets, and then composed to create gorgeous, realistic flowers.

Participants will use the created flowers that have been pre-dyed or left natural to create a holiday centerpiece in a variety of red, burgundy, white and natural colors highlighted by artificial pine needles, berries and real pine cones in a 6×6 inch wooden box. Other natural and artificial fillers will be used to complete the festive look.

Participants also learn where to source the flowers, how to dye them and prepare them for arranging

Elaine Sych’s interest in floral arranging and crafting began in her mother’s garden as a child. Her son’s recent marriage brought to her attention sola flowers and how to use them to create fantastic arrangements that would not wilt and could be enjoyed for a long time. Along with her interest in flowers, she also enjoys sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and learning new skills to apply to her creations. She currently works at Spectrum Gallery where her work is exhibited.
