Civic Orchestra of New Haven presents: Roots and Reflections

New Haven, Conn: The Civic Orchestra of New Haven (CONH), under the baton of Maestro Nadya Potemkina, will present Roots & Reflections on Sunday, May 4th, at 4:00 p.m. at the historic Battell Chapel, located at 400 College Street in New Haven.

This stirring program explores heritage, tradition, and artistic expression through a richly varied repertoire. The concert includes William Grant Still’s Afro-American Symphony, a landmark work blending blues, jazz, and classical form. Audiences will also experience the joyful spirit of Scandinavian midsummer through Hugo Alfvén’s Midsommarvaka (Swedish Rhapsody No. 1). The evocative musical journey continues with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, heard in Tushmalov’s vivid orchestration, and concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Biblical Songs, a deeply personal set of vocal works imbued with faith and longing.
