Description

For a brief period in the 1930s, Japan produced films on paper instead of celluloid. Visit the Humanities Quadrangle for a curated program of animated and live-action paper films (紙フィルム) preserved by the Japanese Paper Film Project and other film archives, as well as museums and private collections in Japan. Live musical accompaniment by Duo Yumeno, with Yoko Reikano Kimura on koto and Hikaru Tamaki on cello. Films presented with English subtitles.

Cosponsored by the Yale University Art Gallery’s Martin A. Ryerson Lectureship Fund and Yale University’s Council on East Asian Studies, Whitney Humanities Center, Film and Media Studies Program, and Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.
