May 12-14, 2025 , the ISM’s fourth Black Sacred Arts conference will convene scholars and artists to consider the theoretical and practical work of centering the Black sacred arts in the academy and beyond. It will explore ways to incorporate the study and practice of the Black sacred arts in curricula and public life with the aim of uncovering new methodologies, epistemologies and pedagogies offered through their study.

The conference will address questions such as: How does centering the Black sacred arts in disciplinary discussions push various fields of study to imagine new theoretical paradigms and methodologies? What are some of the theological and philosophical approaches that are uncovered through the study of Black expressive culture and religion? And what can be gleaned when the Black sacred arts become the heuristic?

The conference will further seek out research and case studies that illustrate the profound losses that have accompanied the exclusion of the Black sacred arts in educational and institutional settings. The interdisciplinary conversations we hope will emerge from this conference will discover novel terrain through centering the Black sacred arts in discussions of sonic, visual, and other sensoria that cut across religious, geographic, or social categories throughout Africa and beyond.

Keynote speakers: Dr. Kyrah Malika Daniels, assistant professor of African American studies at Emory University, and Dr. Jacob K. Olupona, professor of African and African American studies at Harvard University and professor of African religion at Harvard Divinity School.

More details yet to come, including registration link, full schedule and speaker list. View conference website.

The Magic Awaits – Register Early and Be Part of Rotary’s Legacy of Peace and Service!

Rotarians, get ready to experience a weekend like no other! The 2025 District Conference, themed “Magical Mystery Tour,” will transport you into a world of music, peace, and purpose. Hosted in the scenic town of Southbridge, Massachusetts, from May 30 to June 1, this unforgettable weekend is a celebration of Rotary’s magic and mission. And here’s the best part – early bird registration opens November 11th! Don’t miss this chance to be part of something truly special.

Imagine a journey that combines inspiration, action, and connection with fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, and Youth Exchange students from across Southern New England. The “Magical Mystery Tour” promises a lineup of events that will inspire you to take action, build peace, and celebrate the magic of Rotary’s global impact.

Conference Highlights:

  • Keynote Speaker : A renowned Rotary Peace Fellow will challenge us to think deeply about Rotary’s role in peacebuilding, igniting new ways to contribute to a peaceful world.
  • Honored Guest : Ijeoma Pearl Okoro, Rotary President’s Representative from Nigeria, will share insights from her extensive international experience, shedding light on the impact of Rotary’s global service efforts.
  • Music & Peace Fusion : Dive into interactive workshops and live performances celebrating the intersection of arts and peace. From hands-on sessions to inspiring stories, this fusion will leave you motivated to make a difference.
  • Parallel Interact Youth Conference : Young leaders will have a dynamic lineup of workshops and activities focused on leadership, community service, and peacebuilding, running parallel to the main conference.
  • Opus for Peace – An Iconic Evening : On Saturday night, Daisy Jopling and other special musical guests will bring an electrifying performance celebrating peace. This unique journey will blend peace, art, and global impact, creating an experience that promises to resonate with all who attend.

In addition to these engaging events, attendees can look forward to a Road Tour Adventure around Southbridge! Explore historic sites, sip local wines, and connect with nature on scenic hikes and kayaking excursions.

Celebrate and Honor : The weekend will culminate in the Magical Mystery Tour Awards Gala , where we will honor the Rotarians, clubs, and projects making a magical impact in their communities.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of this extraordinary experience! Early bird registration opens on November 11th. Secure your spot, and join us for a weekend of connection, inspiration, and unforgettable memories.

Step into a world where history meets harmony at the Bluegrass Jam at the Museum! Dive deep into the heart of American bluegrass music, as the Shore Line Trolley Museum transforms into a vibrant stage for an evening of musical enchantment.

On the first Tuesday of each month, as the clock strikes 6:00pm, witness a musical rendezvous that celebrates the soulful rhythms and spirited tunes of bluegrass. Whether you're a seasoned musician or someone who simply loves the melodies, there's a spot for you in this musical extravaganza. Come with friends, family, or venture solo – all are welcome!

Set against the backdrop of the Shore Line Trolley Museum's historic charm, attendees will be treated to the mesmerizing sounds of bluegrass, surrounded by the timeless allure of vintage trolleys. It's not just a concert; it's a journey through time, where every note echoes the legacy of a cherished American musical tradition.

Bring along your curiosity and immerse yourself in an evening of musical brilliance. Whether you're strumming along or swaying to the rhythms, Bluegrass Jam at the Museum promises memories that will linger long after the last chord is played.

While the event itself is a gift to music lovers, we kindly suggest a donation of any amount to support the Shore Line Trolley Museum's continued dedication to preserving history and promoting the arts.

Mark your calendars, spread the word, and let's make history together at Bluegrass Jam at the Museum. A night of melodies, memories, and magic awaits!
