Learn the versatile and popular craft of silkscreen/serigraph printmaking.

​

Students will transfer photo images (photography, drawing, painting, or multimedia art) to the printing screens and print onto paper, fabric, or wood panel. Image separations (digital and hand) to print images with more than one color as well as learning how to register multiple colors for printing will be discussed.

​

Includes one 3-hour practice session per week during monitored practice hours.

The tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW.

Learn basic metalsmithing for making jewelry, developing new skills, or strengthen existing ones. Weekly demonstrations introduce tools and techniques required for working with nonferrous sheet metal and wire. Demonstrations may include sawing, filing, cold-connecting, soldering, surface embellishment, forging, shaping, fold forming, finishing, and patina coloring.

The tuition for this class includes a fee of $40 for basic materials provided by CAW.

Use circular needles to knit a hat in the round.

​

We will be covering fundamental skills including casting on, knitting in the round, fixing mistakes like dropped stitches, casting off, and blocking your work. If you can knit a hat, you can knit almost anything! This is the perfect class for beginners and those looking to refresh their knitting skills.

​

The Shubert Theatre puts the spotlight on New Haven's local talent in our all-new Elm City's Cabaret. Patrons will be seated at tables to enjoy an evening of performance in an intimate setting.

In this life, very few friendships withstand the test of time. Naturally, people go their separate ways and chase their own dreams. As rare as it may be for friendships to last a lifetime, it might be even rarer for a band to stick together for the long haul. For close to four decades, the members of Big Head Todd and The Monsters—Todd Park Mohr [vocals, guitar, keys, sax, harmonica], Brian Nevin [drums], Rob Squires [bass, vocals], and Jeremy Lawton [keyboards, lap pedal/steel guitar, vocals]—have continued to both throw down in the studio and light up stages worldwide. Rallying around a core vision, the platinum-selling Colorado quartet kick out the kind of blues-drenched rock ‘n’ roll bangers that make you want to rev the engine a little louder, sing along like no one’s looking, and live a little freer.

​

This holds true on their 12th full-length offering, Her Way Out.

​

“To me, my band means four people who listen to each other, work hard, and share a goal,” Todd observes. “The goal has to do with reaching out to people, catching their ears, and sharing a story we hope they relate to. Our fans have given us an incredible 40-year career, and we hope they’ve gotten great songs and performances in return.”

​

They’ve most definitely delivered on both fronts…

​

As the story goes, Todd, Brian, and Rob unlocked their musical partnership during high school when they started jamming in the early eighties. Fast forward to 1986, they adopted the moniker Big Head Todd and The Monsters. BHTM released 2 successful independent records on their own BIG Records, Another Mayberry (1989) and Midnight Radio (1990) before drawing the attention of music industry titans and signing with Irving Azoff, Chuck Morris, and Frank Barsalona in 1992. They broke nationally with the platinum-certified staple Sister Sweetly (1993) which yielded four top 10 rock radio hits. They continued to progress with Strategem [1994] and Beautiful World [1997] which yielded several more rock radio hits including Boom Boom featuring John Lee Hooker. The band is continually touring and recording and has continued to put out albums that have received critical acclaim from both fans and press.

​

Among other milestones, their music literally reached the heavens when they played “Blue Sky” live at NASA Mission Control, delivering a celestial wakeup for astronauts aboard the International Space Station. They’ve toured and recorded with many rock and blues legends including B.B. King, Neil Young, The Allman Brothers, Hubert Sumlin, David “Honeyboy” Edwards, Dave Matthews Band, The Eagles and their personal favorite Robert Plant. Not to mention, they attained hometown hero status by headlining Red Rocks Amphitheatre 35 times in addition to earning induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2023.

​

Her Way Out came to life organically. For two years, they hosted “Monster’s Music Monthly,” serving up either a new song or a new version of a classic online. Working out of Jeremy’s home studio, they parlayed this momentum into their latest LP.

​

“It had been almost seven years since our last album release, but we wanted to put the same energy of ‘Monster’s Music Monthly’ into a full-length,” Todd notes. “We have a very distinct personality as a band. I write to the sensibilities of each member, because they’re going to have to dig playing it. We’re a benevolent democracy. If one guy isn’t connecting with a certain song, that song is out. As an uncomplicated rock band, we like to do things that are ‘proper’—loud guitars, drums, big bass, and well-placed organ, keys, and lap steel. We road-tested every song on the record before recording a lick. All of that helped us dial in the arrangements, ditch tunes that didn’t work, and grow a strong sense of what our individual parts should be.”

​

In this respect, the single and title track “Her Way Out” packs a concentrated and catchy punch. Anchored by a steady beat, the rough and tumble riff kicks up dust as soulful vocals ignite an irresistible refrain, “She found her way out, her way out—and it was me.”

​

“It’s driven by the idea that relationships are frail,” he elaborates. “Sometimes, they are something one wants freedom from. A real-life circumstance drives this story. Something was said when a person had too much to drink. The relationship ended with words, but the drinker could never know what he said and the woman refused to tell him.”

​

Ass-kicking guitar surges through “Thunderbird” as strains of organ coat a raucous refrain with a lyrical tip-of-the-hat to the Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas classic American Graffiti.

​

He goes on, “‘Thunderbird’ is a collection of one-liners from the film knit together with a beat poet vibe. It has an AC/DC-like guitar riff and a cinematic-style vocal. It’s all about drag racing and love never caught.”

​

Elsewhere, Big Head Todd and The Monsters nod to Annie Oakley with “Don’t Kill Me Tonight.” Then, there’s “King Kong.” A hulking groove lumbers beneath the frontman’s bluesy intonation as a piano solo bleeds into a skyscraper-scaling guitar lead.

​

“It’s inspired by a large movie poster in my basement of King Kong on top of the Empire State Building,” Todd reveals. “I’m drawn to these iconic contemporary heroes who are also monsters. They are complicated because they destroy so much, yet are sympathetic to children and fall in love with human women. These ‘Titans’, as they are called, are often monsters of our own making. It’s exciting to perform live.”

In the end, the future looks as bright as ever for these longtime friends.

​

“We work very hard at being a great band,” Todd leaves off. “We’re also a group that cares for each other. We’ve been together for almost 40 years. Our audience has made it all possible, and we’re grateful and determined to keep playing.”

  The evocative imagery of Nancy L. Greco’s drawings occupy ethereal spaces where dreamlike myths and fleeting memories shape a realm of endless potential. Human and animal forms are prominent themes that appear contained by and yet freely float within surreal, natural and architectural settings. Dynamic juxtapositions and unexpected perspectives untether her representational imagery from traditional contexts and invite the viewer to explore the elusive nature of memory - fragmented, incomplete but undeniably vivid.

  Greco’s drawings, prints, and paintings have been exhibited internationally throughout her 50+ year career. She holds an M.F.A., from The Ohio State University (Columbus) and an M.A. and B.A. in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Guilford Art League’s Winter Show is now on exhibit in the Menunkatuck Room at Nathanael Greene Community Center (32 Church Street, Guilford). In total, there are 48 pieces of art in the show including paintings, pastels, monoprints, mixed media, and collage, featuring dynamic abstract compositions, layered assemblage, bucolic local scenery and more. Each piece is an engaging feast for the eyes. Stop by simply to enjoy the creativity or to look for a special piece for that empty spot on your wall. Artwork will be on display until April 8.

The Clinton Art Society (CAS) is pleased to launch the 2026 exhibition season with the Winter Juried Members Exhibition on view from January 26 through April 23, 2026. The opening reception is Thursday, January 29 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm and is free and open to the public.

Guilford Art Center is delighted to announce the new gallery exhibition, Local Color 7: Circular Thinking , featuring fiber art created by the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA-CT). It kicks off with a free Opening Reception, open to the community, on Sunday, February 1, from 2-4pm. This exhibition of fiber art by members of SAQA-CT is designed to explore the varieties of meanings, images, and experiences evoked by the circle. The circle can be appreciated as a shape, a symbol, a concept or a metaphor. This exhibition seeks to celebrate diverse explorations of this image that has permeated cultures across the world and across time.

This exhibition emerges from love for Iran and from the urgency of witnessing its present history. As an Iranian woman living in exile, Mahsa Attaran’s practice is shaped by ongoing state violence, gendered oppression, and the massacre of civilians, nearly 50,000 people, during the ongoing revolution. Her work responds to this moment as both testimony and refusal of silence.

​

Working as an Iranian woman in exile , Attaran moves across photography, video, language, and handmade forms, centering women’s lives, domestic spaces, and forms of care as sites of political meaning. Her practice critiques violence enabled and normalized by patriarchal power structures, religious authoritarianism, and the laws of an extreme Islamist regime, while honoring the resilience of Iranian women, men, and children living under these conditions.

​

Attaran’s work asks viewers—particularly Western audiences—to confront the lived experience of life under state-enforced Sharia law, where rights are understood yet systematically denied. Rejecting ideological narratives, her practice centers the pursuit of dignity, safety, and self-determination amid ongoing political violence.

​

Rooted in devotion to her homeland and its people, Attaran’s critique arises from love. Through her practice, she asks viewers to witness, to sit with discomfort, and to recognize this violence as it continues to unfold.

​

Mahsa Attaran is an Iranian-born visual artist, photographer, and educator whose work explores culture, gender, and belonging through memory, exile, and domestic archives. Working across photography, video, installation, and conceptual wearables, she often uses the archive to preserve and reframe women’s histories. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Iranian Artists Forum, Iranian Art Museum, Windsor Art Center, and Hartford Theatreworks, and has been featured in Hyperallergic.

​

As an Iranian woman in exile, Attaran is committed to witnessing and refusing silence in the face of political violence and human rights abuses. She also leads workshops and talks that encourage critical engagement with social justice, memory, and responsibility.

​

Attaran holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Connecticut and teaches on the Visual Arts faculty at The Loomis Chaffee School

Explore the creative possibilities of clay by shaping and molding it into one-of-a-kind works of art.

Each week, young artists will create a specific project including bowls, animal figurines, and masks. Our team will fire each clay masterpiece and they will all be ready to take home by the end of the class. Some pieces will also be glazed by the students and fired a second time, resulting in beautifully colored pieces.

​

Clay can spark imagination, encourage children to think creatively and express themselves in new ways. It can also help young people develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and emotional expression through hands-on activities.

Perfect for budding artists and future ceramicists, this is more than just a creative experience—it’s the beginning of a handmade collection to be proud of!

This exhibition of fiber art by members of SAQA-CT is designed to explore the varieties of meanings, images, and experiences evoked by the circle. The circle can be appreciated as a shape, a symbol, a concept or a metaphor. This exhibition seeks to celebrate diverse explorations of this image that has permeated cultures across the world and across time.

This exhibition emerges from love for Iran and from the urgency of witnessing its present history. As an Iranian woman living in exile, Mahsa Attaran’s practice is shaped by ongoing state violence, gendered oppression, and the massacre of civilians, nearly 50,000 people, during the ongoing revolution. Her work responds to this moment as both testimony and refusal of silence.

​

Working as an Iranian woman in exile , Attaran moves across photography, video, language, and handmade forms, centering women’s lives, domestic spaces, and forms of care as sites of political meaning. Her practice critiques violence enabled and normalized by patriarchal power structures, religious authoritarianism, and the laws of an extreme Islamist regime, while honoring the resilience of Iranian women, men, and children living under these conditions.

​

Attaran’s work asks viewers—particularly Western audiences—to confront the lived experience of life under state-enforced Sharia law, where rights are understood yet systematically denied. Rejecting ideological narratives, her practice centers the pursuit of dignity, safety, and self-determination amid ongoing political violence.

​

Rooted in devotion to her homeland and its people, Attaran’s critique arises from love. Through her practice, she asks viewers to witness, to sit with discomfort, and to recognize this violence as it continues to unfold.

​

Mahsa Attaran is an Iranian-born visual artist, photographer, and educator whose work explores culture, gender, and belonging through memory, exile, and domestic archives. Working across photography, video, installation, and conceptual wearables, she often uses the archive to preserve and reframe women’s histories. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Iranian Artists Forum, Iranian Art Museum, Windsor Art Center, and Hartford Theatreworks, and has been featured in Hyperallergic.

​

As an Iranian woman in exile, Attaran is committed to witnessing and refusing silence in the face of political violence and human rights abuses. She also leads workshops and talks that encourage critical engagement with social justice, memory, and responsibility.

​

Attaran holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Connecticut and teaches on the Visual Arts faculty at The Loomis Chaffee School

Overcome the mysteries of the sewing machine and discover how fun and easy it can be! Learn the basics of machine sewing including threading, operating, and troubleshooting.

Practice using the machine and then move on to simple projects for yourself or for gift-giving. Participants will learn a variety of machine sewing methods including piecing, applique, quilting, and freehand. Potential projects include art pieces, wall hangings, patchwork, quilt patterns, bags, a zippered pouch, table runner, or pillow cover. Tips for altering clothes can also be covered. Students who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class are eligible for a refund or credit toward another class, less a $25 registration fee.

In this seven-week studio course, students will explore the art of printmaking through a focused challenge: creating works strictly within a 12” x 12”  format. Participants may work in relief, intaglio, monotype, or monoprint, using primarily water-based inks (other solutions are permitted).

​

Through guided instruction and experimentation, students will develop original designs and concepts that reflect current trends and innovations in contemporary printmaking—all within the creative boundaries of the one-square-foot format. The square format, historically uncommon until the rise of abstraction, presents unique compositional and expressive challenges that foster precision, visual order, and formal structure.

​

This course is designed to support the creation of final works suitable for submission to The Center for Contemporary Printmaking’s Footprint International Competition 2026. All skill levels are welcome.

​

Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours.

Discover the artistry of rug tufting, a creative process where participants will sketch a pattern on a cloth, then use a tufting gun to inject the yarn into the cloth.

Participants will delve into the hands-on experience of tufting their own unique designs. The process begins with sketching a pattern on a cloth, followed by using a tufting gun to intricately inject yarn into the fabric canvas. Each participant will be assigned the use of tufting gun and frame, all materials will be provided to create a rug approximately 20" x24". Over the two sessions participants will create a carpet of their own design which they can take home.

Yes, kids can safely sew on a machine! Learn all about how the machine works and then get sewing with simple projects like a pin cushion and small bags. Students will also learn hand stitching utilizing embroidery threat and felt to create cute animals like a teddy bear, dogs and cats. Ever wanted to create animations like The Amazing World of Gumball (2011), Steven Universe (2013), or The Owl House (2020)? This class teaches the skills you need to start bringing your own animations to life. Begin with exercises that introduce you to the program and key animation concepts, then use the second half of the class to create your own original animated short. Build on the skills you’ve learned in previous classes and bring your ideas to the screen! By the end, you’ll have a great foundation to keep animating.

This exhibition emerges from love for Iran and from the urgency of witnessing its present history. As an Iranian woman living in exile, Mahsa Attaran’s practice is shaped by ongoing state violence, gendered oppression, and the massacre of civilians, nearly 50,000 people, during the ongoing revolution. Her work responds to this moment as both testimony and refusal of silence.

​

Working as an Iranian woman in exile , Attaran moves across photography, video, language, and handmade forms, centering women’s lives, domestic spaces, and forms of care as sites of political meaning. Her practice critiques violence enabled and normalized by patriarchal power structures, religious authoritarianism, and the laws of an extreme Islamist regime, while honoring the resilience of Iranian women, men, and children living under these conditions.

​

Attaran’s work asks viewers—particularly Western audiences—to confront the lived experience of life under state-enforced Sharia law, where rights are understood yet systematically denied. Rejecting ideological narratives, her practice centers the pursuit of dignity, safety, and self-determination amid ongoing political violence.

​

Rooted in devotion to her homeland and its people, Attaran’s critique arises from love. Through her practice, she asks viewers to witness, to sit with discomfort, and to recognize this violence as it continues to unfold.

​

Mahsa Attaran is an Iranian-born visual artist, photographer, and educator whose work explores culture, gender, and belonging through memory, exile, and domestic archives. Working across photography, video, installation, and conceptual wearables, she often uses the archive to preserve and reframe women’s histories. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Iranian Artists Forum, Iranian Art Museum, Windsor Art Center, and Hartford Theatreworks, and has been featured in Hyperallergic.

​

As an Iranian woman in exile, Attaran is committed to witnessing and refusing silence in the face of political violence and human rights abuses. She also leads workshops and talks that encourage critical engagement with social justice, memory, and responsibility.

​

Attaran holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Connecticut and teaches on the Visual Arts faculty at The Loomis Chaffee School

Overcome the mysteries of the sewing machine and discover how fun and easy it can be! Learn the basics of machine sewing including threading, operating, and troubleshooting.

Inviting 1st -5th graders to join our Spring Play “The Quest, a Fairy Tale with Attitude”

​

SYNOPSIS: Something is terribly wrong with Grandma! She’s very sick and weak, but luckily for her, recovery is just a quest away! The teacher at the exclusive Fantasy Academy challenges her fairy tale character students to embark on a quest to gather three hard-to-obtain items and cure Grandma. Of course, every good fairy tale has a villain, and the best one of all is the big bad wolf, Huff-n-Puff! If Grandma is in good health, Huff-n-Puff’s plot to snatch the basket of goodies away from Little Red with a Hood might fail! He must keep Grandma feeble by finding the three items before the students do. The fairy tale students fight off the wolf and his sidekick, Tag-Along Troll, and continuously seek the audience’s assistance throughout their journey. Naturally, in the end, their quest is successful, and Grandma is better than ever!

Open to children 1st - 5th grade. All children registering will be cast in the show. There is no formal audition process. Actors will have unofficial Auditions on the first day of rehearsals. This will be a more relaxed, group-based atmosphere with the goal of matching actors with the parts that are best for them. 

​

Rehearsals start on January 11th and are Sundays 1:30 - 3:30 pm and Tuesdays 4 - 6 pm with performances on March 27th, 28th, and 29th. Tech week will include extra rehearsals from 3/23 - 3/26.

This exhibition of fiber art by members of SAQA-CT is designed to explore the varieties of meanings, images, and experiences evoked by the circle. The circle can be appreciated as a shape, a symbol, a concept or a metaphor. This exhibition seeks to celebrate diverse explorations of this image that has permeated cultures across the world and across time.

  The evocative imagery of Nancy L. Greco’s drawings occupy ethereal spaces where dreamlike myths and fleeting memories shape a realm of endless potential. Human and animal forms are prominent themes that appear contained by and yet freely float within surreal, natural and architectural settings. Dynamic juxtapositions and unexpected perspectives untether her representational imagery from traditional contexts and invite the viewer to explore the elusive nature of memory - fragmented, incomplete but undeniably vivid.

Guilford Art League’s Winter Show is now on exhibit in the Menunkatuck Room at Nathanael Greene Community Center (32 Church Street, Guilford). In total, there are 48 pieces of art in the show including paintings, pastels, monoprints, mixed media, and collage, featuring dynamic abstract compositions, layered assemblage, bucolic local scenery and more. Each piece is an engaging feast for the eyes. Stop by simply to enjoy the creativity or to look for a special piece for that empty spot on your wall. Artwork will be on display until April 8.

The Guilford Art League was founded in 1947 by a small group of local artists. The objective of the art league is to promote and stimulate interest in the visual arts. The Clinton Art Society (CAS) is pleased to launch the 2026 exhibition season with the Winter Juried Members Exhibition on view from January 26 through April 23, 2026. The opening reception is Thursday, January 29 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm and is free and open to the public.

“Wintertime is the perfect season to experience the light, color and warmth of art,” said Robin Hammeal-Urban, CAS President. “We are honored to have Laura Leonard as our esteemed juror. We invite the community to visit the show and discover our accomplished local and regional artists who work in a vast array of styles and media,” she added.

The exhibition is at the Andrews Memorial Town Hall, 54 E. Main Street in Clinton, CT and is open during regular Town Hall hours.

CAS is a vibrant arts community with members from across the state and region working in all fine art media. The organization sponsors exhibitions, plein air events, and educational sessions. Guilford Art Center is delighted to announce the new gallery exhibition, Local Color 7: Circular Thinking , featuring fiber art created by the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA-CT). It kicks off with a free Opening Reception, open to the community, on Sunday, February 1, from 2-4pm. The show will be displayed in the GAC gallery daily through Feb 28. The gallery is open 7 days a week:  Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm; free admission.

This exhibition of fiber art by members of SAQA-CT is designed to explore the varieties of meanings, images, and experiences evoked by the circle. The circle can be appreciated as a shape, a symbol, a concept or a metaphor. This exhibition seeks to celebrate diverse explorations of this image that has permeated cultures across the world and across time.

​

We are all part of an interconnected circle, as this show highlights, inspiring and encouraging creative engagement from local and regional artists” says Maureen Belden, Executive Director, Guilford Art Center.

Betty Busby, an independent SAQA Juried Artist and the Chairperson of SAQA’s Exhibitions Committee, was selected to jury this exhibition. She is a published fiber artist and teacher and maintains a busy exhibit schedule nationally and internationally. She considered each of the 72 entries from regional artists and has selected 36 pieces for the final collection.

This fast paced class is all about making a hard cover accordion book on the theme of library or your love of books. You might make a book that holds lists of favorite books you have read, books you wish to read, your favorite libraries, or whatever else you can think of!

​

There will be demonstrations and instruction on a variety of ways of using the accordion fold in a book format: as a panel, as individual pages, as a board book and as a book spine. After creating samples, students will be guided in choosing a format for displaying old school library pockets and their removable cards and adding text or images if desired. You might even use reclaimed book covers to finish your book. Students will leave with samples of accordion books and a completed artist book of your own!

Get ready to sketch the world around you! In this fun and inspiring class, students will learn how to turn everyday moments into colorful works of art using markers. Whether it's a favorite toy, a family pet, or a scene from the park, young artists will be encouraged to observe their environment and express what they see through drawing. Students will learn: • How to sketch quickly and confidently • Marker techniques for shading, texture, and blending • How to create scenes that tell a story • Developing their own creative style Great for both beginners and experienced young sketchers! All levels welcome. Tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for materials provided by CAW.

🤩OPEN MIC NIGHT is held in our all indoor Game Garden every Monday (excluding private event bookings).Whether you're in the mood to tell a story, sing a song, or do some stand up, the mic will be open! Get in early to grab a drink, sign-ups begin at 5 PM🎤

INDUSTRY NIGHT will take place in the Beer Hall every Monday 6-9 PM! Service industry workers can enjoy $5 full-pours all night long. Come grab a stein and toast to some well deserved down time 🍻

Explore the joy of painting in this beginner-friendly class. Students will learn fundamental painting techniques, including brushwork, color mixing, and layering. You’ll be guided through observational exercises designed to build both confidence and skill. Students may choose to work in either oil or acrylic paint.

We’ll cover the essentials—drawing, color, layering, and brush techniques—while exploring how digital tools can enhance your creative process. Procreate’s intuitive features make it easy to blend traditional art skills with modern flexibility.

Designed for beginners or anyone curious about digital art, this class offers a step-by-step approach to building skills and confidence with Procreate.

The instructor will demonstrate the process for carving and printing a 4” x 6” linoleum block, as well as a variety of inking and printing processes. Students will focus on developing original designs and concepts to prepare a linoleum block to ink, create a series, and print the results.

All printing will be done with water-soluble inks.

Includes one 3-hour weekly practice session during monitored practice hours.

​

Tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW. Linoleum Blocks and paper will be provided for the first two classes; students will need to purchase their own paper and blocks after the second session.
