Separated by 2,781 miles and on two different continents, Iraqi and Nigerian Christians share similar stories of persecution. From 2014-2018, portions of Northern Iraq were under the control of the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and many religious minorities, including Christians, experienced persecution and violence as a result. In the northern and central portions of Nigeria, violence towards Christians and other minority groups has also increased in recent years at the hands of Boko Haram and other groups. 

​

The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center is honored to share the stories of those displaced in Iraq and Nigeria through Among the Persecuted and Displaced — a collection of photographs taken by Stephen Rasche. The Knights of Columbus has sponsored some of Rasche’s work in both countries, bringing to light the atrocities inflicted on those persecuted for their faith.

Kehler Liddell Gallery (KLG) is a cooperative gallery in the heart of New Haven’s Westville village representing 22 of the area’s most notable emerging and established artists. Established in 2003, KLG is one of New Haven’s longest-running retail galleries to date. All of the artists are juried into membership. In "Red, White, and Bruised," artist Sarah Schneiderman confronts the fractured healthcare and reproductive landscape in the United States. Schneiderman made these poignant assemblages from non-recyclable medical and other debris. This exhibit juxtaposes imagery of American flags with maps showing state-level abortion access. Each piece in this exhibit examines the promises of liberty and justice against the realities of unequal care, legislative control, and choice.

​

Sarah reimagines the flag—an emblem of national pride and unity—using discarded medical materials such as pill packs, gauze, surgical socks, and syringe tubes. These flags represent waste in America's healthcare system, both figuratively and literally. They explore the equality of those who have access to healthcare. Minorities, women, and people of lower socioeconomic status receive different care than wealthy white men. Alongside the flags, abortion access maps, constructed from similar debris, show in which states reproductive rights are banned or are safe and legal. These maps lay bare the consequences of political decisions on real bodies.

​

Together, these works ask: "What does it mean to pledge allegiance to a nation where geography, wealth, gender, and race determine who has access to care?"

​

"Red, White, and Bruised" invites viewers to reflect on national pride, laws, and personal health. It challenges us to envision a country where care and choice are universal rights, not privileges.

“Music chose me. I vividly recall trying to sing like Louis Armstrong’s ‘Hello Dolly’ in our Brooklyn apartment. It came on the radio often. I knew I was small, but when I researched what year this version was on the charts, I was floored by the realization that I was two years old!”

​

And so, Joanna Connor’s musical odyssey began. The soundtrack of her childhood in her adopted hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts was diverse and bounteous. The Blues was part of the lexicon. Joanna’s favorite record as a child was Taj Mahal’s “Take A Giant Step/ The Old Folks At Home”.

​

Seeing Buddy Guy perform at a local university at the age of 10 left a paramount impression. Playing saxophone, guitar, and singing through her school years were her passions, eventually leading to her performing professionally at age 17.

​

But her hunger to become a guitarist first and foremost and her desire to immerse herself in the Blues propelled her to move to Chicago in 1984.

​

“It was my university. I went out every night of the week. Within a month I had my first gig with the legendary Johnny Littlejohn. A few weeks later I became a part of Dion Payton and the 43rd St Bluesband. We were the house band at the Checkerboard Lounge, on the south side of Chicago, then owned by Buddy Guy. That’s when my schooling kicked into overdrive. I played with Buddy, Junior Wells, Otis Rush, Sammy Lawhorn, Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Magic Slim, Son Seals, Lonnie Brooks, and Koko Taylor, just to name a few. I was blessed.”

​

Joanna went on to form her own band in 1988 with weekly appearances at the Kingston Mines in Chicago. Her formidable guitar playing and distinctive soul-churning vocal ability caught the attention of Blind Pig Records, who released her debut album “Believe It” in 1990.

​

National and International accolades in the press and radio media resulted in a decade of world tours, a dozen recordings on Ruf Records, MC Records and others, a documentary on Germany’s WDR Television, and a multitude of TV appearances and radio features.

​

Joanna and band shared stages with Blues, Rock, and Jazz greats, including Luther Allison, BB King, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Robben Ford, Danny Gatton, Robert Cray, Jimmy Page, ZZ Top, Joe Cocker, Etta James, and others.

​

Joanna signed endorsement deals with Gibson Guitars, Victoria Amps, and Orange Amps.

​

In 2005, she took a hiatus from touring to spend time at home raising her young daughter. Two 15-plus-year residencies at the House of Blues and The Kingston Mines honed Joanna’s considerable guitar and vocal chops even further.

​

While working continuously in Chicago, a handful of videos of her incendiary slide guitar solos went viral creating quite a sensation and garnering attention from media and established musicians alike. Joe Bonamassa sought her out and offered to produce the kind of record he felt Joanna had always had in her and should deliver to the world. 4801 South Indiana is this record, a blues record that delivers all the raw emotion, passion, and fire that made the Blues so compelling from its inception. Joe Bonamassa did not merely produce, arrange, and play on the record, he enabled and inspired Joanna to pull from deep within her all of what her life in music had given her. While steeped in tradition, the recording is no museum piece, it is alive and it is kicking, once-in-a-lifetime Blues

Bobby T & The Name Droppers are a Blues, Rock and Soul band that hails out of Fairfield Connecticut. An exciting combination of powerhouse players playing a unique blend of rock that is guaranteed to blow your mind. Bobby “T” Torello is a Classic Drummer Hall of Famer and New England Music Hall of Famer.

Join us for the opening our new exhibit celebrating the life and work of distinguished artist Howard Fussiner (1923–2006).  Throughout his career, Fussiner was featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across New York, New Haven, and New England, including a major thirty-year retrospective at the Munson Gallery in 1990.

​

​

His paintings and prints are held in prestigious collections such as the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), the Slater Museum, the Yale University Art Gallery, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

​

​

Curated by Judy Birke this exhibition and sale will run through August 31. The venue is accessible 24/7 with a lobby concierge onsite.

Explore the delicious intersection of food and art.

​

Students will delve into the works of artists like Peter Anton, Claes Oldenburg, and Wayne Thiebaud, who transform culinary themes into captivating masterpieces. We’ll use their artwork for inspiration to make two and three dimensional artwork with a variety of materials including clay, cardboard, papier-mâché, fabric, paint, and paper.

Weather permitting, there will be a one-day field trip to the Yale University Art Gallery to view examples of food in art.

​

The tuition for this class includes a fee of $20 for basic materials provided by CAW.

Explore the world of art and nature through a combination of fun art projects and seed planting activities.

Young students will create colorful artwork while learning about different plants and how to care for them. Each child will have the opportunity to plant their own seeds and watch their creations grow, making this a unique experience where imagination and nature come together! Projects will include painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture.

The Clinton Art Society (CAS) is pleased to present the annual Summer Juried Exhibition June 26 through July 30. “The event will be the highlight of our exhibition season as we celebrate visual arts and the vast talents of our member artists,” said CAS President Robin Hammeal-Urban. “We are honored to have renowned artist Anda Styler serve as our juror to select works and choose award recipients,” she added.

Join us for the opening reception on Sunday, June 29, from 2pm to 4pm and be a part of the visual celebration. The event is free, open to the public, and includes refreshments, live music, and inspiring art. The exhibition includes works in a wide range of artistic styles and mediums.

CAS was established in 1949 by a small group of professional artists dedicated to the growth of the arts in the region. “We’ve grown to become a vibrant influence in the arts community with members from across Connecticut and throughout New England,” Hammeal-Urban said. CAS sponsors exhibitions, critique events, and educational programs. Artists work in all fine-art media including painting and sculpture and new members are welcome.

Wabi Arts' Summer Teen Photography Program emphasizes the significance of validating teens' unique perspectives and empowering their self-image. Through this program, students will learn the art of photography from experienced artists and commercial photographers, gaining hands-on experience and honing their skills. At the conclusion of the seven-week program, students will showcase their creations in a final art exhibition, providing an opportunity to display their artistic talents and gain recognition for their hard work. Sarah Schneiderman from Glastonbury, Connecticut, is the featured artist at the Cheshire Public Library at 104 Main Street in Cheshire, CT,  from July 2 through July 30, 2025. Her exhibit, “More Garbage Than Fish,” showcases assemblages made from trash that depict the fish she encountered while scuba diving. The artist is hosting a reception  on Monday, July 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The show and reception are free and open to the public. 

​

Ms. Schneiderman explains what influenced this series: “I started diving in 2013 after retiring from my corporate career. I fell in love with the creatures found in the ocean and learned that coral reefs are dying and water temperatures are rising. Having previously created art using found objects and trash, I continued this theme by making representational artwork of the fish I’ve seen while diving. These pieces reveal both the beauty and the sometimes haunting aspects of sea life. Beneath the surface beauty, I address the overwhelming presence of trash, particularly in our oceans, through the use of found and recycled materials. This includes everyday debris, and items people have given me such as bead and button collections, produce bags, and piano parts.”

​

The exhibit also offers information on how to reduce our plastic consumption.

His paintings and prints are held in prestigious collections such as the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), the Slater Museum, the Yale University Art Gallery, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

The Clinton Art Society (CAS) is pleased to present the annual Summer Juried Exhibition June 26 through July 30. “The event will be the highlight of our exhibition season as we celebrate visual arts and the vast talents of our member artists,” said CAS President Robin Hammeal-Urban. “We are honored to have renowned artist Anda Styler serve as our juror to select works and choose award recipients,” she added.

Wabi Arts' Summer Teen Photography Program emphasizes the significance of validating teens' unique perspectives and empowering their self-image. Through this program, students will learn the art of photography from experienced artists and commercial photographers, gaining hands-on experience and honing their skills. At the conclusion of the seven-week program, students will showcase their creations in a final art exhibition, providing an opportunity to display their artistic talents and gain recognition for their hard work. Sarah Schneiderman from Glastonbury, Connecticut, is the featured artist at the Cheshire Public Library at 104 Main Street in Cheshire, CT,  from July 2 through July 30, 2025. Her exhibit, “More Garbage Than Fish,” showcases assemblages made from trash that depict the fish she encountered while scuba diving. The artist is hosting a reception  on Monday, July 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The show and reception are free and open to the public. 

​

Ms. Schneiderman explains what influenced this series: “I started diving in 2013 after retiring from my corporate career. I fell in love with the creatures found in the ocean and learned that coral reefs are dying and water temperatures are rising. Having previously created art using found objects and trash, I continued this theme by making representational artwork of the fish I’ve seen while diving. These pieces reveal both the beauty and the sometimes haunting aspects of sea life. Beneath the surface beauty, I address the overwhelming presence of trash, particularly in our oceans, through the use of found and recycled materials. This includes everyday debris, and items people have given me such as bead and button collections, produce bags, and piano parts.”

​

The exhibit also offers information on how to reduce our plastic consumption.

HEAD WITH WINGS  

Head with Wings are storytellers of sound. Textured, ethereal, and blissfully haunting, the U.S. - based quintet creates boundary-pushing rock songs that straddle the aesthetic line between art music and narrative drama. Following the release of their second LP, Without Intervention in late 2023, Head with Wings began pre-production on a follow-up record titled Vanity of Clarity. This new album became an obsession for the band throughout 2024, which raised some concerns as to why they weren’t spending the year touring in support of the last album. The answer is simple – creative momentum needed to be capitalized on. The result of that year is 70+ minutes of their most engaging and diverse material yet – an outpouring of honesty and emotion that will be heard in due time. As 2025 rolls on, the production of Vanity of Clarity will coincide with local and regional live performances, where rock audiences will get a taste of the new album along with some classic back catalogue material. Separated by 2,781 miles and on two different continents, Iraqi and Nigerian Christians share similar stories of persecution. From 2014-2018, portions of Northern Iraq were under the control of the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and many religious minorities, including Christians, experienced persecution and violence as a result. In the northern and central portions of Nigeria, violence towards Christians and other minority groups has also increased in recent years at the hands of Boko Haram and other groups.

The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center is honored to share the stories of those displaced in Iraq and Nigeria through Among the Persecuted and Displaced — a collection of photographs taken by Stephen Rasche. The Knights of Columbus has sponsored some of Rasche’s work in both countries, bringing to light the atrocities inflicted on those persecuted for their faith.

New Haven’s City Gallery is an artist run gallery featuring exhibitions of contemporary art by its 15 members throughout the year. DIVERSE VOICES showcases the distinct and varied work of three of its members: Judy Atlas, Robert Jacoby, and Tom Peterson. The group show will be on view from July 5 - July 27. Hammer, saw, fold, stamp, twist, shape, and heat metal to make sculpture and jewelry. Students will learn techniques using copper and brass sheet metal along with wire to create 2-D and 3-D objects and forms. Have fun exploring basic hand tools such as mallets, cutters, files, pliers, and torches (one-on-one with instructor).

Fun with Metal is a unique opportunity for young artists to try a new discipline. Join us!

Join Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscript Library and New Haven Free Public Library in celebrating the launch of the New Haven Memory Lab – a digitization station to help New Haveners preserve and share their personal, family, and organization histories. Located in Ives Squared at the Ives Main Library, the Lab is provided as part of the Beinecke’s New Haven Community Archives Support program.

At the time of launch, the Memory Lab can be used to create digital scans of print and photographic materials including:

· Photographic prints, negatives, and slides

​

· Photo albums and scrapbooks

​

· Print documents

​

· Books, pamphlets, and other bound items

​

Brief remarks will be followed by a demonstration and an opportunity to try out the tools available at the Memory Lab. Refreshments will be provided in the adjacent café.

Students will explore a variety of art media through choice-driven, open-ended activities, with a focus on process rather than product. Your young artist will enjoy a story related to creating art and the creative process. The goal is to promote early literacy, expressive language and fine motor skills while introducing a variety of art materials.

​

Join us for the opening our new exhibit celebrating the life and work of distinguished artist Howard Fussiner (1923–2006).  Throughout his career, Fussiner was featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across New York, New Haven, and New England, including a major thirty-year retrospective at the Munson Gallery in 1990.

​

​

His paintings and prints are held in prestigious collections such as the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), the Slater Museum, the Yale University Art Gallery, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

Curated by Judy Birke this exhibition and sale will run through August 31. The venue is accessible 24/7 with a lobby concierge onsite.

The 2025 Twilight Concert Series at the historic Pardee-Morris House will continue with traditional folk by Jovial Crew   on July 9. New Haven Museum thanks community partners WSHU 91.1 FM and The Howard Gilman Foundation for supporting the 2025 summer season.

This generative writing session will help writers narrow in on a significant object as a starting point for a short story. We will first discuss how writers shape their stories around specific objects and the value of objects and metaphors, read short works that masterfully take this approach, and then lay the groundwork for our own object-inspired fiction. At the end, attendees will have the opportunity to share what they've generated and discuss the writing process.

Kristin Dringoli is a fiction writer from Cheshire. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Creative Writing at Southern Connecticut State University and is a summer 2025 author fellow at the Martha's Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing. Students will delve into the works of artists like Peter Anton, Claes Oldenburg, and Wayne Thiebaud, who transform culinary themes into captivating masterpieces. We’ll use their artwork for inspiration to make two and three dimensional artwork with a variety of materials including clay, cardboard, papier-mâché, fabric, paint, and paper.

Weather permitting, there will be a one-day field trip to the Yale University Art Gallery to view examples of food in art.

Young students will create colorful artwork while learning about different plants and how to care for them. The Clinton Art Society (CAS) is pleased to present the annual Summer Juried Exhibition June 26 through July 30. “The event will be the highlight of our exhibition season as we celebrate visual arts and the vast talents of our member artists,” said CAS President Robin Hammeal-Urban. “We are honored to have renowned artist Anda Styler serve as our juror to select works and choose award recipients,” she added.

Join us for the opening reception on Sunday, June 29, from 2pm to 4pm and be a part of the visual celebration. The event is free, open to the public, and includes refreshments, live music, and inspiring art. The exhibition includes works in a wide range of artistic styles and mediums.

CAS was established in 1949 by a small group of professional artists dedicated to the growth of the arts in the region. “We’ve grown to become a vibrant influence in the arts community with members from across Connecticut and throughout New England,” Hammeal-Urban said. CAS sponsors exhibitions, critique events, and educational programs. Artists work in all fine-art media including painting and sculpture and new members are welcome.

Wabi Arts' Summer Teen Photography Program emphasizes the significance of validating teens' unique perspectives and empowering their self-image. Through this program, students will learn the art of photography from experienced artists and commercial photographers, gaining hands-on experience and honing their skills. At the conclusion of the seven-week program, students will showcase their creations in a final art exhibition, providing an opportunity to display their artistic talents and gain recognition for their hard work. Sarah Schneiderman from Glastonbury, Connecticut, is the featured artist at the Cheshire Public Library at 104 Main Street in Cheshire, CT,  from July 2 through July 30, 2025. Her exhibit, “More Garbage Than Fish,” showcases assemblages made from trash that depict the fish she encountered while scuba diving. The artist is hosting a reception  on Monday, July 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The show and reception are free and open to the public. 

​

Ms. Schneiderman explains what influenced this series: “I started diving in 2013 after retiring from my corporate career. I fell in love with the creatures found in the ocean and learned that coral reefs are dying and water temperatures are rising. Having previously created art using found objects and trash, I continued this theme by making representational artwork of the fish I’ve seen while diving. These pieces reveal both the beauty and the sometimes haunting aspects of sea life. Beneath the surface beauty, I address the overwhelming presence of trash, particularly in our oceans, through the use of found and recycled materials. This includes everyday debris, and items people have given me such as bead and button collections, produce bags, and piano parts.”

​

The exhibit also offers information on how to reduce our plastic consumption.

Separated by 2,781 miles and on two different continents, Iraqi and Nigerian Christians share similar stories of persecution. From 2014-2018, portions of Northern Iraq were under the control of the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and many religious minorities, including Christians, experienced persecution and violence as a result. In the northern and central portions of Nigeria, violence towards Christians and other minority groups has also increased in recent years at the hands of Boko Haram and other groups.

The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center is honored to share the stories of those displaced in Iraq and Nigeria through Among the Persecuted and Displaced — a collection of photographs taken by Stephen Rasche. The Knights of Columbus has sponsored some of Rasche’s work in both countries, bringing to light the atrocities inflicted on those persecuted for their faith.

Kehler Liddell Gallery (KLG) is a cooperative gallery in the heart of New Haven’s Westville village representing 22 of the area’s most notable emerging and established artists.
